Today, I learned that one of my clients, a recent widow, received 6 weeks of Paid Family Leave she had been denied intially. The leave was the result of caring for her critically ill husband and her two small children. We appealed the denial. She called today to express gratitude for our help. I whooped it up with my assistant when the news came in. It wasn’t a lot of money, and I took no part of it, of course. We have “bigger fish to fry” regarding her termination of employment. But what a joy today. It is odd to me what brings satisfaction. Of course, I love the big settlements or the ultimate verdicts. Seeing that she got some redress today, and that she was happy at the outcome was, as the commercial says, “priceless.”
